R. Walter Kinsey
Operations Officer

Assistant Chief R. Walter Kinsey started his career with Orangeburg County Fire District in 2011. He was promoted to Operations Officer in 2013. Responsibilities as Operations Officer include:

·      All vehicle insurance coverage and claims.

·      The point of contact in matters related to the Radio Systems Dispatch, and CAD system.

·      Conducts Fire Investigations and works beside other state and local jurisdictions.

·      Point of contact with the NFIRs database.

·      Coordinates and schedules county-wide operations.

·      Command staff position on Large Scale incidents.

As the Operations Officer, he has conducted several I26 lane reversals. This included the staff scheduling for the traffic control points and other tasks. Prior to working for the district, he was employed with the South Carolina Forestry Commission, as a Warden Technician. The duties included wildland firefighting, in state and out of state. He left the state after 10 years of service to begin his new career.

 Walter began his firefighting career in 1995 as a volunteer firefighter with the Holly Hill Fire Department. Climbing through the ranks he became Fire Chief in 2005.  In 2017 he retired as the Chief and still remains a life member.

Walter has three sons Dalton Kinsey, Cameron Kinsey, and Brayden Kinsey. He is married to Amanda Kinsey and their family lives in Holly Hill.
